3 Key Life Coaching Skills to Help You Through Difficult Times

Now, more than ever during this huge shift in our world, we need to find ways to be present with each other, to be present with ourselves and to keep our hearts open.

What I am describing above, are the core skills of a professional life coach. But don’t you think these are foundational skills for us all right now?

Imagine being able to be completely present to your child when she needs to talk to you about missing her friends. Imagine being so in touch with yourself, that you can breathe anxiety away when it appears. Imagine dealing with all the added responsibilities of taking care of your family while you are trying to work from home.

Here are a few important tips to help:

  1. Staying present means listening to what the other person is saying to you, not to the comments from the voice inside your head. Listen to them, not to yourself.
  2. Staying present to yourself means noticing how you are feeling and giving yourself permission to feel it. We are all grieving right now. Feeling a little like an emotional rollercoaster is to be expected.
  3. Keeping your heart open means breathing into your heart centre and allowing yourself to relax all the muscles that are feeling tight. When you let your heart open, love flows more easily within and then without. It’s like a breath of fresh air, and totally under your control no matter what the outer circumstances are.
